Privileges recommended to elite athletes; discount in various services

Athlete benefits recommendation committee has urged the Sports Ministry to provide various privileges to elite athletes.

The list of athletes recommended to receive the benefits include those who have won medals at the South Asian and Asian Games as well as those who has represented Nepal at the Olympic Games.

The recommendations were submitted to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Daljit BK Shreepali, by the committee on Wednesday.

Recommendations include:

South Asian games gold medalists and Asian Games medalists (110 athletes)

  • 100% discount in health and education services.
  • 50% discount in air/land travel.
  • 50% discount in entertainment services.

South Asian Games silver medalist and Olympics participants (231 athletes)

  • 80% discount in health and education services.
  • 50 % discount in air/land travel.

South Asian Games bronze medalist (442 athletes)

  • 70% discount in health and education service.
  • 50% discount in air/land travel.

In addition the committee has recommended the ministry to make the monthly cash reward provisioned for medal winners regular. The Asian Games medalists and South Asian Games gold winners were only paid one of cash reward for four months.

The committee has also urged the ministry to facilitate insurance for athletes.

Other recommendations include:

  • Establishment of separate hospital for athletes.
  • Establishment of a Sports University.
