Kirtipur defeated Brooklyn College in Group C of the Thasang U-23 men’s basketball tournament today.
Having secured fourth place at the SMC Cup recently, Kirtipur were comfortably the better side in the only match of the day at the U-23 basketball event.
Kirtipur’s team coordination was obviously better; and the fact that players like Nischal were allowed far too much space to shoot made their day easier.
Kirtipur boys were also better on transition offense, getting the ball out of their post area slightly faster than their opponents specially towards the second quarter.
Kirtipur opened up a narrow lead in the first quarter and went on to extend it further to 15 points.
Brooklyn College switched to man-to-man defense in the third quarter which helped them cover some grounds. Brooklyn came within 7 points of equalising in the early part of the fourth quarter but they couldn’t keep up the pressure.
In the end Kirtipur built back their lead to win their first match of the Thasang U-23 men’s basketball tournament by a margin of 18 points.
Final score: Brooklyn 63-81 Kirtipur (11-13, 12-25, 27-20, 13-23).
Highest scorer: Nischal Maharjan – 23 points.
