Defending champions, Xavier Int’l College sidelined hosts, St. Xavier’s College to reach the final of the St. Xavier’s College Basketball Tournament 2017.

In what was the repeat of last year’s final, the outcome remained the same…the visitors the victors.

First impressions were all St. Xaviers…strong start to take the lead. But their dominance barely lasted few minutes and the two were neck and neck ending first quarter tied on 8 points each.

There wasn’t much to separate the two in the second half either. At the end of second quarter, Xavier Int’l just about got their neck in front.

All this time though, Xavier Int’l top shooter, Binesh Neupane, was yet to get to his strides. And when he did after the half-time break, momentum took a sharp turn.

Contributing factor was also Xavier Int’l pressing much better in defense….Khunken up front in 1-2-2 …adventurous enough to press beyond the three point line did well to win some steals.

Xavier Int’l were on the rise and run of 6 points from Binesh at the end of the third quarter gave Xavier Int’l 11 point lead.

Best of Binesh was yet to come. 11 points in a row from Binesh took the margin to 17 points …score 53-36…Xavier Int’l in full control. From that point on there was no return for the hosts.

Unfortunately for the home fans, St. Xavier’s couldn’t guard Binesh on the baseline drive nor could they track him on the baseline cuts.

Binesh contributed 22 points (highest in the match) and went on to win the man of the match prize.

Final score: Xavier Int’l 62-41 St. Xavier’s (08-08, 14-12, 22-13, 18-08).

The final of this edition of the St. Xavier’s College Basketball Tournament is scheduled for July 02, 2017.
