SXC Cup 2017: Xavier Int’l earn a double

Xavier Int’l College recorded win in both the men’s and women’s categories on day 5 of the St. Xavier’s College Basketball Tournament 2017.

Xavier Int’l women defeated Pulchowk Engineering College while the men’s team annihilated Deerwalk Institute of Technology (DWIT) to start their SXC Cup 2017 campaign in style.

Pulchowk ladies had a slight height advantage but playing without all that many games under their belt against Xavier Int’l, who are regulars in the Nepal College Basketball circuit, was a challenge. Needless to say, they fell short.

Xavier Int’l opened a small margin in the first quarter and continued to build on their lead until the end of third quarter.

Despite comfortably leading though, their relaxed nature nearly came to bite them in the end. Mid-way through the fourth quarter, Pulchowk ladies put up a good fight to close gap down to just 3 points leaving Xavier Int’l with worrying few minutes.

However, Xavier Int’l had plenty in the tank to finish off the game. Maya Rai and Sabina Magar rose to the challenge to make sure they got the win. Maya Rai was awarded the player of the match prize.

Maya Rai receives player of the match prize for her contribution.

Final score: Xavier Int’l 30-24 Pulchowk (07-04, 07-04, 08-05, 08-11)
Highest scorer: Maya Rai – 16 points.

In the late fixture, Xavier Int’l men crushed DWIT 75-14.
