Ace Institute of Management showed a dominant performance to defeat Morgan Int’l College on day 4 of the St. Xavier’s Cup Inter-College Basketball Tournament 2017.
Ace had a fairly strong line up with the likes of Ashish Singh in the team. As well as their technical superiority, they were also stronger physically.
While Ashish controlled much of the game, it was Karma Tashi Gurung who was a handful in the first quarter — Morgan boys unable to guard him on the low post.
Having said all that, Morgan were holding their own — trailing by just four points at the end of the first quarter. But in the following quarter Ace pressed well in defense to deny Morgan chances on the inside allowing them just 6 points.
In offense, Ashish Singh did much of the damage scoring 13 of the 18 points Ace added in the second quarter. And when he wasn’t scoring he was providing the assist as well as his defensive work. Rightly, in the end, he went on to scoop the man of the match prize.
Ace held on to their lead in the second half to take a comfortable win.
Full score: Ace 62-43 Morgan (17-13, 18-06, 13-13, 14-11).
Highest scorer: Ashish Singh – 24 points.
In the late fixture of the day, NATHM defeated Thames 37-30.
