Local team Naya Bazaar Club (NBC) Kirtipur defeated Public Youth Campus (PYC) to register their first win at the Hari Sharan Smriti Cup (HSSC) 2017 Veteran’s Basketball Tournament.
Santosh Tamrakar and Sanjay Prajapati put PYC on lead to start with but lasted only about a minute as Biku Maharjan hit two baskets on the fast break on the other side to level things and Sasir Maharjan gave NBC the lead.
And once NBC took the lead they didn’t look back ….as they went on to record their first victory in the tournament.
Biku Maharjan, who was the manager of the Nepal men’s national team that was supposed to have played at the SAG 2016, continued to put on quite a show throughout the match….. but his shooting didn’t do much justice. However, Nepal U-18 men’s national team head coach Rabindra Man Maharjan made up for Biku’s misfortunes….he piled on the most damage on PYC…… going on to score 20 points for NBC. While in defense, Sasir Maharjan, was enough to deny the likes of Sanjay and Saroj from easy shots.
On the other side, Prime College women’s basketball team manager, Santosh Tamrakar, had a good game scoring 13 points while Prime College women’s basketball team and Nepal women’s national team head coach, Bikash Shahi, provided the assist for much of the PYC scores. Unfortunately for NBC, their highest scorer from the previous match Sanjay Prjapati was relatively quiet on the day.
Final score: NBC 54-38 PYC (11-09, 17-14, 12-02, 14-13).
