Goldengate Int’l College defeated Bishal Milan Kendra (BMK) to reach the final of the Hari Sharan Smriti Cup (HSSC) 2017 veteran’s basketball tournament.
Based on the results so far, this match was expected to be the toughest so far. However, Goldengate made it look relatively easy.
One of Goldengate’s top shooters, Anil Maharjan, didn’t have the same sort of luck as he did in the previous match but who needs outside shooter when you can get in on the inside. Still, Anil went on to score 14 points for Goldengate.
Goldengate’s better fitness levels meant players like Karma Gurung was able to cut inside quite often. And despite BMK having the tallest players guarding the post it was difficult to stop them….. at least not without conceding a foul. And some of them foul turned into three-point plays for Gurung which helped him amass 28 points for his team.
Shanta Man Ratna also got on the double digit scoreline for Goldengate with 18 points. While Bipen Maharjan got most of the assists as well as scoring 11 points.
On the otherside, Ashish KC improved on his previous performance to hit 16 points for BMK which included three treys while Ajay Manandhar got his fair share on the scoreboards. But it wasn’t enough to trouble Goldengate veterans.
Goldengate opened up a margin of 7 points at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead in the subsequent quarters….always in control of the game as they collected their second win and booked their place in the final.
Final score: Goldengate 73-56 BMK (23-16, 21-14, 14-14, 15-12).
