BMK recorded their second win and a place in the final of the Hari Sharan Smriti Cup 2017 veteran’s basketball tournament with the defeat of Nayabazaar Club (NBC).
In a must win game for both sides, BMK held their nerves much better than their opponent as they bounced back from a defeat in the previous fixture.
Sadly, the local side had the worst start of any team in the tournament so far. There performance in most areas were indifferent from any of their previous matches but when it came to shooting they were way off target in the first quarter. NBC men missed the long range shots, they missed the mid-range shots and even missed simple lay-ups on fast breaks….. finishing the first quarter without a single point.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Ashish KC started off with a three pointer and Ajay Manandhar did his job on the low post to put BMK 17 points in front.
NBC’s misfortunes continued for almost the first half of the second quarter, while BMK took the scoreline to 22-00.
Spark of hope came NBC’s way when Sasir Maharjan, who usually takes the centre role, drove down and got their basket. Moments later, Sudhir Maharjan and Maskey (Rabindra Man Maharjan) added a few more to close the gap to 13 points.
Unfortunately for local fans, come the third quarter NBC’s streak of poor shooting creeped back in. Add to that, BMK improved on their scoring in the third quarter to take the game beyond NBC’s reach.
Ashish KC who has been making steady progress on each game, had his best scores yet in the tournament contributing 19 points for BMK….15 of those coming from three pointers.
Although, NBC had a day to forget, Maskey went on to score 18 points including four treys.
Final score: BMK 73-38 NBC (17-00, 07-15, 23-06, 16-17).
The final between Goldengate and BMK is scheduled for Saturday, April 22.
