HISSAN Basketball 2017: Morgan, Times through to quarter final

HISSAN Basketball Morgan vs Angel's Heart

Morgan Int’l College and Times Int’l College makes up the list of eight teams who made it into the quarter-final of the ongoing HISSAN Basketball tournament.

Morgan booked their quarter-final berth after defeating Angel’s Heart; while Times Int’l College sidelined Goldengate Int’l College on Monday. Other teams on their way to the quarter-final include Trinity, Little Angels, Einstein, Rosebud, Xavier and CCRC.

Angel’s Heart vs Morgan

Based on previous performances, Angel’s Heart had every chance of beating Morgan Int’l. And it was evident on the match with the two sides exchanging lead a few times. However, it wasn’t their day as Morgan just edged in the end.

Morgan had improved on their shooting since their previous match against CCRC but not enough to build a good margin in the first quarter.

Although Morgan defense did a good job of keeping their opponents away from the basket, they couldn’t quite build any distance. Angel’s Heart stayed close by, rather unassumingly. And around a minute before the half-time, with the score at 15-18 in Morgan’s favour, momentum changed.

What started as a clumsy dribble by Prabin Magar, ended up finding Deepesh Magar with plenty of space…. he hit a trey to take Angel’s Heart within a point of Morgan. That was followed by two fast breaks one by Nikesh Magar and another by Deepesh to make it 22-18 before the half-time break. Unfortunately, Angel’s Heart couldn’t keep their lead for much longer after the break as Morgan turned the tide.

Morgan boys didn’t fare much better at keeping their lead either. And once again Angel’s Heart retook the lead and this time they did a much better job. They built a margin of 7 points (38-31) midway through the fourth quarter.

Angel’s Heart had a perfect chance to take the lead further but Deepesh missed a simple layup at the end of a fast break. And soon the momentum swung the other way. And this time for good as the time was running out.

Run of 8 points — 4 from Bikram Baniya and another 4 points from Deepak Limbu — and Morgan were on lead (38-39). And Kinar Tamang came in with a three pointer at the right time to build a 4 point cushion. Not a big margin but enough to take them to the quarter-finals.

Angel’s Heart gave it a one last push but they didn’t have much time to make a difference.
