Street protest was held at Maitighar Mandala in the capital today, demanding proper compensation to those who are losing their property (house and land) in course of the road- widening drive.
The affected families from different parts of the Kathmandu Valley including Kalimati, Kalanki, Tripureshwor, Bhaktapur, Godawari, Dhapakhel and Dakshinkali who have formed committees to ‘struggle’ for ‘justice’ gathered in the Maitighar Mandala in a bid to press the government for proper compensation.
Protesters said the government encroached on their ancient settlement and was using its force to drive them out from their properties. They complained that said their houses were being demolished in the name of road expansion drive without prior information.
One Suman Sayami said, though the government was urged to provide appropriate compensation to the affected before bulldozing their houses, the drive was going in 22 locations leaving the affected high and dry. RSS
