The 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Mt Makalu is to be celebrated with a festival at Chichila of Sankhuwasabha district in eastern Nepal.
Preparations for the Makalu diamond jubilee festival are said to be in the final stage. The two-day festival will be held from November 21.

There is also plan to build a park to mark the diamond jubilee. The income generated from the festival is said to be spent on building the park.
Sherpa, who has scaled 14 of the over 8,000 meter mountains around the world, said that the Makalu Diamond Park would be built at Chichila from the income of the Festival.
Sherpa said that although Rs 8 million is necessary to organise the Festival, only Rs 2 million has been collected so far. RSS
