Norbu Gurung, is one of the basketball returnees after a long gap, he is a Nepali arts expert, co-founder of Himalayan Hounds Basketball Club.
Norbu Gurung was born and raised in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. Outside of basketball, he is an Nepali arts expert and a arts dealer. He also had a short stint in football at Manang Marshyangdi Club and earned himself a trial in the US. But injury killed the dream.
He started learning basketball with friends when he was at school in India (Kokaikanal International School, Tamil Nadu). He played in several open basketball tournaments while in India. But he couldn’t continue basketball due to other interests and family responsibilities.
He decided to come back to basketball in 2015 and joined South Siders Basketball Club. He said, the devastating “earthquake in 2015” had an impact which made him come back to basketball. However, with too few a tournament, he did not actually get a chance to play for the club.
He along with few other players decided to form a new team which gave birth to Himalayan Hounds Basketball Club in 2017. He is also credited as the instigator of the home and away men’s basketball league which is now called the Kwik’s Basketball League 2018.
