Bipendra Maharjan is one of the biggest and highly decorated Nepali basketball player who at the age of 39 is still playing at his best.
Bipendra Maharjan had the knack for sport from an early age. He spent much of his youth playing all sorts of sport while at the Galaxy School student hostel….basketball was one of those. Among various sports interests, he was an avid table tennis player… going on to win the national school championships.
He continued to explore basketball through his 10+2 college years at Galaxy School and then at Tri-Chandra College.
In 1997 he won the first NeBA national championships with Galaxy School. During that time there was regular basketball tournaments which made him choose basketball in the long run over football or other sport.
Following that he has played for various teams including Nakabahil Youth Club in Patan, Shanti Youth Club also based in Patan, ASCOL Campus, ACE College, Whitehouse College and finally joined Goldengate Int’l College 20016 where he still makes up the core of the team.
He was selected in the Nepal Men’s National team for the first time in 2002 and went on to represent Nepal until 2012 in various international basketball tournaments.
He has won numerous title in the domestic scene, which include:
- 1st NeBA national championships (Galaxy School)- Winner
- 2nd NeBA national championships (ASCOL Campus) – Winner
- 3rd NeBA national championships (ACE College) – Winner
- 4th NeBA national championships (Whitehouse College) – Winner
Quite recently, he was member of the central zone, which went on to win NSC National Championships 2018. He was one of the star performers at the championships which landed him the MVP award.
Bipendra Maharjan has been coaching basketball at the Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC) since 2003.
